Automated Window Coverings. No Longer a Luxury.

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

The Evolution Of Automated Window Coverings

In the fall of 2006, I installed my first automated window covering product for a client. The condominium had a two-storey open concept living room with massive windows and a view that allowed you to see from mid-Oakville to across Lake Ontario on a clear day.

What a view!

Sounds like a dream, right?

Shortly after moving in however the owners found out that on a sunny day it became almost unbearable with the glare and heat. They needed a solution and motorized window coverings provided a long list of advantages for them.

Let the work begin. First task: getting the power to the source.

Now the client could control the light, view and privacy and have a much more energy efficient home!

To say that automated window coverings has grown In the fourteen years since my installation would practically be an understatement. As with most technology it has grown in leaps and bounds. The core benefits of automation remain the same though and have become a technology that many homeowners want to integrate with their overall home automation.

Automated Window Treatments As Part Of The Smart Home

Products in a smart home work with one another to improve a households overall efficiency. Automated window coverings can function independently and seamlessly with other smart home systems and can work alongside automated lights, thermostat controls and more. At night you can set your shades blinds to close, outside lights to come on and the thermostat to lower the temperature.

Protect Your Interior

Sun can damage wood flooring, furniture, and fabrics. With automation you are able to control the lighting conditions either through sun sensors or timers. Interior woods and fabrics will be protected from the damaging rays of the sun.

The Benefit of Cordless

Cords on window treatments pose a safety hazard to pets and children. Motorized window treatments are cordless thereby making them a worry-free product for parents and pet owners.
